Wig Care

Natural wig care and styling:

Before washing, gently brush the wig thoroughly with a wig brush. For wigs with a tight curl, do not brush, use fingers to gently remove the tangles.

Use a mild shampoo. In a sink or basin, add a small amount of shampoo to cold water. Turn wig inside out and immerse. Gently swirl and let soak for about 5 minutes.

Rinse the wig gently in cold water until all of the shampoo residue is removed.

Gently apply conditioner to the wig and leave it in for 2 minutes to allow it to penetrate the hair.

Gently rinse the wig in cold water until all of the conditioner is removed.

Wrap the wig in a towel and gently pat to remove excess water.

If desired, apply a some conditioning spray very lightly over wig, spraying from a distance of 10 - 12 inches. Place the clean wig on a wig stand and allow to air dry thoroughly before brushing. Do not dry the wig in direct sunlight.

Your wig can be styled by using a wig comb, a wig brush, or your fingertips. It is best to avoid using a brush designed for human hair. These brushes can create excessive tension, which over-stretches the hair with abrasive strokes that may cause damage.

To achieve style variations, liquid wig mousse is an essential styling tool. For wavy or curly styles, just mousse, hand scrunch, and pick the style into curls. On straight styles, mousse and brush lightly.

The best styling tool is the most inexpensive; a spray bottle of clean water. Lightly spray your wig with water to remove the static electricity and return it to its original look.

Your wig was designed with a basic style but you can achieve many variations through styling. If added height is desired, gently lift with the wig comb. If you want added fullness as well, tease or back-comb and then smooth the surface hair over. Your wig can be returned to its original style by washing it and allowing it to air dry. To completely restyle, we recommend taking your wig to a professional hair dresser.

Synthetic wig care and styling:

In general, you should always use a wig cap. This will lessen the amount of scalp oils touching the wig.

Unless you are doing a photo shoot, we also recommend that you remove your wig when lying down.

Wig Storage

Wigs are best stored on a wire form as they can be dried and hold their shape.

Styrofoam head forms will maintain the wig shape but cannot be used for drying.

For long term storage, the wigs can be carefully placed in the original packaging.

Wig Cleaning

Wigs should be washed after 8-10 wearings. Before washing, gently brush out all the tangles with a comb. Use wig shampoo specially designed for synthetic wigs. In a sink or basin, mix 2 capfuls of shampoo with cold water only, and immerse wig. Gently swirl, and let soak for 8 minutes. Rinse the wig gently in cold water. Swish the wig around but do not scrub the fibers. After washing, discard the soapy water. Rinse again until the soap residue is gone. Shake out the excess water and blot the wig dry with a towel. Do not squeeze or wring as this could cause damage. Place the clean wig on a wig stand and allow air to dry thoroughly before brushing or combing.

Wig Styling

Synthetic wigs can be self-styled, but many people visit a professional stylist to help achieve specific character looks.

Any regular comb or brush can be used. Brush out the tangles first. Style as you would with natural hair.

Hair Products

Wigs can be dyed, styled with gels, hairspray, spiking glue. Wigs can be returned to their previous form by washing with water.

Heat Tools

Plug in the curling iron and let it get hot. This will take about fifteen minutes. After brushing and combing the wig, separate the hair into sections for curling. Open the curling iron by holding your four fingers around the handle while pushing your thumb down on the moving part of the handle. Clip the curling iron onto a one half inch strand of hair at the top of the wig, the part closest to the root, by lifting your thumb. Then slide it down to the tip of the hair. Be sure to stop before it completely slides off. Start curling your wig in the direction you want it to curl in, for example curve it under if you want an inward curl. Continue to curl the wig until you reach the top part of the hair and hold it for about 10 seconds. Slowly and gently start to uncurl the hair until you reach a point where you can press your thumb down again without your hair holding your curling iron shut. (The slower you let it come down, the longer the curls will hold.) Open and close the curling iron until you ease it out of your wig. Repeat the steps on all of your hair that you want to curl.
